I recently signed up and I've been wondering how are individuals notified after the weekly drawing for the gas card?

ricky3107 "I recently signed up and I've been wondering how are individuals notified after the weekly drawing for the gas card?"
As indicated earlier, members are notified via e-mail and given a reasonable period of time to respond.
And, said with tongue in cheek, if the "winner" doesn't acknowledge quickly - very quickly, for that matter - other members will start new topics asking why the winner hasn't yet been identified, and suggest that there's a conspiracy of sorts regarding distributing the prizes.

This isn't necessarily our latest data, but a year or two ago we were having a few thousand tickets daily. With the app now it may be higher.

Wow, how can you understand what I wrote; I can't even understand that first sentence! lol That's what happens when I write from the phone in a hurry and not pay attention to the auto-correct changes.

when I first started, I saved my points for a month and then bought the maximum amount of tickets, didn't win, so now I thought I'll just keep putting in two tickets a week and see what happens. It does appear to be a secret though, about how many tickets people put in each week, as Pastic mentioned previously

I was absolutely blown away when I was picked for last weeks winner...Seriously...I have been with GB less than a month, had only used the app on my phone, and received an email that I had won. Of course, I replied right away, but also thinking it was a joke or some kind of SPAM. I believe if the winners don't respond right away they may give them ample time to respond.

A state lottery might have odds worse than lightning, but the GasBuddy drawing has a *much* smaller pool.

I'm surprised, all this concern about a $250 gas card. I assumed its like the lotto. Better chance of getting hit by lightning. I'm not going to loose sleep over either.

That's seems to be some super secret, insight. We ask a lot and once in a while we'll get an answer to the effect of, "it depends how many tickets are purchased each week." Pretty vague non answer. Oh well. Good luck with the contest!

"Why do the winners have to respond at all when they win? They might be on vacation or maybe their computer has crashed. When we register as members our names and addresses are on file. Why aren't winners simply mailed their gas card prizes?"
I know it's hard to believe but some people sign up with bogus e-mail addresses or e-mail addresses they never check. And they also sign up using bogus physical addresses.

plastic is answer the question "how can I find out how many tickets I'm eligible to buy", but it sounded to me as though the question is "how many tickets have *other* members bought". The latter information is not available in general, though the moderators have sometimes posted the tallies in the past.
See also various ticket-related issues covered on the FAQ page.

Wing, go to the "Home" tab and look on the left where there's a yellow button that reads, "Get Tickets."

Imagine someone didn't update their email address, had moved, found out some time later that they had won but never received their prize. They very well might cause some negative publicity for the site for reasons that were totally beyond the site's control. This way the winner is positively identified. I also think the site likes to wait to post a picture of the winner with the prize.
Keep in mind that this is a prize that the site really doesn't have to provide at all and they do provide a few weeks for you to respond, so it is highly unlikely that you will be out of touch for such a length of time that you could not respond to them.
It is because of threads like this that I made this suggestion. Unfortunately, TPTB are oblivious to even easily implemented suggested changes to the website.

kitty1750,
There have been and still are bogus members here that submit fake addresses and are only here to cause trouble. That's their entertainment. The site ownership wants to be sure that the drawings are legitimately awarded to real people.

Just guessing that they don't want to send out prizes that get lost in the mail because someone didn't update their profile when moving, or entered an incorrect address when they signed up?

Sometimes Gas Buddies don't know where to look for the winners or where and when the draws are taking place. This senior lady is new to the gas buddy site and just learning the ropes. This krysieck comments about discrepancy was a little unnerving. What will happen to this gas buddy's points.

I would hope you wouldn't receive 100 e-mails. One letting you know you entered 100 times would make sense. Sorta like a daily journal of site activity.

Rather than "purchase" tickets, I think tickets instead should be awarded to members based on the current week participation. Perhaps for every 1000 points the member is awarded 1 entry into that weeks drawing.

Just think, GB could put advertising links and images in the hundreds of thousands of lottery ticket verification e-mails creating a direct marketing strategy that everyone who spends their points on tickets would be subject to.
P.S. sarcasm intended

Seems like a great idea but I'm not too crazy about it just because I don't know how you pick winners.
For instance, if my "strategy" is to buy 7 tickets at the end of the week, I might not be able to get to my e-mail to confirm that purchase by the deadline.
If my "strategy" is to buy one ticket daily, when I can, then those tickets won't be posted until I can get to my e-mail and verify them; thus defeating my "strategy".

Here's an idea:
What if the process of "purchasing" tickets included an email confirmation that you had to click on within 24 hours to actually enter the drawing? It would verify that the site had a working email address for each member who entered, and would verify to each member what email address would be used to notify them of winning.
I also think there should be some notification to each member who enters what the process of notification involves, and a warning that not getting back within some defined time period will result in an alternate winner being awarded the prize. This could be included in the confirmation email, and clicking through to verify receipt would also verify their agreement to the terms of the award.
Points would not be deducted for the "purchase" until the verification link was responded to.

We don't know that he didn't win. The information available is consistent with any number of situations. For example, if the drawing was aborted for some reason and hasn't yet been conducted properly, then any of the entrants might still be winners.

<Well, you didn't win so what's the problem?> . Yeh I know that. You keep saying all the long past winners are listed and they are not....so everything is not ok with the listing.
I am just pointing out that there is that one week....February 13, 2012 - February 19, 2012.....that no winner has been announced. This topic is about the prize giveaway and there is one missing over a month ago.

NOPE........ The fact is there is still no winner listed for week...
February 13, 2012 - February 19, 2012 - no winner - between GasTagFL and CAT TAC
If they announced the winner today for that week it would be #188 and they would place it between GasTagFL and CAT TAC so the weeks would show as consecutive.
Prize Giveaway #'s are not always consecutive but the weeks are always.
February 13, 2012 - February 19, 2012 is NOT there !
