My current vehicle is in pretty good shape, and we need a van due to business concerns. But, when we close the business, if all goes well, we will be looking to downsize. Depending on the costs, we probably would go electric or at least a hybrid.

Unlikely due to many things, mostly cost. If the price comes down to comparable to standard vehicles and range is similar, then ok. Good concept, but let those who have money to burn try them out and bring the price down. By the time I can afford one, I probably won't be driving anymore due to old age.

Perhaps and electric scooter for putting around town. Never a car. An electric vehicle will never be suitable for a road trip.

Looks like the "I already have one", wins...no contest, no votes, and after five days too. I live here in Leftville, VA and just don't see them on the roads however, the golf courses are over run with them. If I were to go home with one the family would not disown me they would dismember me at the Apple. The answer is NO, hell no.

As soon as we go electric then electricity will be high and limited like gas. The question is: which is the lesser of two evils?

I am sure battery technology and infrastructure (charging stations) will get better and thus make these types of cars more useful. Till then, I am ok with my Civic Hybrid.

In the long run it would be greener to use a diesel powerplant under the hood to power electric motors directly driving each wheel and a suplementary system that would deliver electricity to the car via overhead wires like a trolley on urban main roads and freeways. Battery manufacture has reached a dead end, and it too is frought with environmental dangers. Cars powered by methane would be esentially bombs on wheels, because the heavier gauge walled tank would be still too vulnerable to methane creeping into the metal and making it brittle over time. Though it wouldn't be as bad as pure hydrogen. That stuff is a 100 times more explosive than methane and that much worse in making steel brittle.

Would be great if you had free tows for when you run out of power. Of course free does not exist - unless you are in an election year. Then you have both parties giving away everything. Hope the youngin's do not mind the big bill we are running up.

No! They've been trying for over 100 years and STILL haven't solved the problem of adequate and affordable battery storage!

An electric vehicle with a range of less than 100 miles is too limiting. But 40 mpg hi-way with a turbo makes sense to me. Fewer young people drive cars, they use mass transit, bikes , and facebook . Also think of where all that electricity comes from, like Nuclear and Coal. And where that waste goes? We are a petroleum exporter. Let's burn it here!

You have to be totally clueless t want to own an electric car. They are over priced golf carts that are only adding to the problem of not enough electricity to go around. We are already experiencing brown outs and some black outs. the electric grid can't handle it and the electric companies expect the taxpayers to pay for the grid upgrade while they are reaping profits instead of setting the money aside needed to do the job.

Very unlikely. I've always been fascinated by gasoline. I don't know why but I rather have fun maintaining a gas powered vehicle than an electric one. I own a motorcycle and I would never trade it for an electric vehicle. Plus I'm poor.

Check the cost of replacements batteries after 3-4 years, you'll see why I won't purchase one. Get a 40 mph gas car for much less.

If the power went out, I'd charge the car from housetop PV panels. You can't refuel a gas car when there's no power.
When will electric cars make sense? Well, nobody can see the future. Look at the prices of other technology: LEDs, computers, phones. There might be a breakthrough.
